Chilli FM App Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

The Chilli FM apps for Android, iOS, Android TV and Fire TV were developed and are published by Hot Pepper Media, S.L. ("we", "our", or "us"). Chilli FM, the internet radio service the apps stream, is owned by Chilli FM. This policy explains how we handle information when you use the apps. By using the apps, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

We do not collect personally identifiable information directly, and no user accounts or registration of any kind are required to use the apps.

In the phone apps, we generate a random, anonymous identifier for the app. It is used only for your likes (the heart): to build the Top 10 chart, to prevent double-voting, and to bring your likes back if you reinstall the app or move to a new phone. It is never linked to your identity, and we do not track what you listen to.

With your consent, the phone apps collect anonymous usage statistics (such as app sessions, device type, and country) and anonymous crash reports to help us improve the app. We do not collect your device's advertising ID. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings.

The TV apps collect no usage statistics, crash reports or identifiers.

3. Log Data

If an error occurs in a phone app, we (through third-party tools) may collect log data such as your device's IP address, device name, operating-system version, app configuration, the time and date of the error, and other technical details. This is used only to diagnose problems and improve performance.

4. Audio Stream & Song Information

Your device connects directly to our streaming provider's servers to receive the live broadcast and the name of the song playing. As is normal for internet radio, these servers log standard connection details (IP address, time).

Album artwork is fetched from the iTunes Search API (Apple Inc.) using only the song title and artist.

The song facts shown under the player in the phone apps are written by AI (Claude, by Anthropic). Our server sends only the song title and artist; nothing about you is included.

Show times, the schedule, the Top 10 and your likes come from our own server at chilli.fm, which is delivered through Cloudflare. Like any website, it handles your IP address to send you the content.

When you play the radio on a TV (Chromecast or Google TV) from a phone app, the app looks for these devices on your Wi-Fi. The TV then loads Chilli FM's TV screen from chilli.fm and plays the stream itself. On iPhone, AirPlay is handled by iOS itself.

5. Permissions We Request

Android phone app

• Internet: required to receive the audio stream and song information.
• Foreground Service / Wake Lock: keeps audio playing when the screen is off or the app is in the background.
• Notifications: shows playback controls in your notification bar and on the lock screen, and delivers push notifications.

iPhone app

• Background Audio: keeps audio playing when the screen is locked or the app is in the background.
• Notifications: delivers push notifications. Playback controls on the lock screen need no permission.
• Local Network: lets the app find Chromecast and Google TV devices on your Wi-Fi so you can play the radio on them. Nothing else on your network is accessed.

TV apps

• Internet, network state, and keeping the device awake while the radio plays, so it continues under the screen saver.

Playing through Bluetooth headphones, speakers, your car, Android Auto or CarPlay needs no extra permission. We do not request microphone, location, or contacts access.

6. Cookies

The apps themselves do not use cookies. Some third-party services listed below may use cookies or similar technologies, which you can manage through your device settings.

7. Third-Party Services

• Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (Google LLC), phone apps only: with your consent, collects anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
• OneSignal (OneSignal Inc.), phone apps only: delivers push notifications; may collect your device token and notification interaction data. See onesignal.com/privacy_policy.
• iTunes Search API (Apple Inc.): retrieves album artwork for the current track using only the song title and artist; no personal data is sent.
• Our streaming provider: delivers the live broadcast and song names.
• Google Cast (Google LLC): lets you play the radio on a Chromecast or Google TV. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Anthropic (Claude): writes the song facts from the song title and artist only, through our server.
• Cloudflare (Cloudflare Inc.): delivers our chilli.fm server's content and protects it from attacks.

Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy.

8. External Links

The apps may contain links to external websites that we do not operate. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those third-party sites.

9. Children's Privacy

These apps are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and will promptly delete any such data if it comes to our attention.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted, with a revised "Last updated" date.
